“I’ve Got Your Back, Buddy”

Black Rhino and Oxpecker Bust, sculpted in oil based clay and cast in bronze; sculpt finished in 2025 and cast in 2026.

Rhinos are magnificent creatures that are sadly critically endangered due to poaching for their horns. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet these awesome creatures on safari in Kenya, which inspired me to create this piece.

This sculpt depicts a Black Rhino with their Oxpecker co-pilot. Oxpeckers ride on Rhinos and eat ticks while also alerting the Rhino to any nearby threats. They really have the Rhino’s back !
